If you are a Utahn, did you notice Utah is on the “to be announced” list?  We have no stop Common Core bill yet.  We have too little political pressure from the people upon our leaders.  So please:  please come to the State Capitol next week, on Feb. 18th at 6:30-8:00 to show your concern for this issue.  Please share this event  where we will hear from and speak with legislators, parents and organizations who are opposed to Common Core.  We need large numbers of people to show up and to show support, to get proper protections for our children here in Utah.

  1. In Ohio, HB 237 is the one to repeal Common Core and it is the one I support. HB 413 “forbids the implementation of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) tests for the 2014-15 school year and prohibits the renewal of the State’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Partnership after it expires at the end of calendar year 2015.” BUT, it transfers “authority and accountability for the ultimate make-up of the tests to the Controlling Board, an obscure, unelected panel made up of six legislative appointees and one handpicked by the Governor. ” So it would shift authority over education policy from the legislature the Controlling Board which does not hold public hearings and would reduce accountability.

  2. The PROBLEM is that our lovely Constitution divides power between (1) what the Federal government can do and (2) what the States can do. It’s missing the most important element required for a free and independently thinking people: (3) what the sovereign power of the Ethically Conscientious Individual has no place in the Constitution as written. We need to write “the right of ethically conscientious individuals to choose the kind of education their children will receive” into the Constitution.

    • Oops. Recalling the above and rewriting: The PROBLEM is that our lovely Constitution divides power between (1) what the Federal government can do and (2) what the States can do. It’s missing the most important element required for a free and independently thinking people: (3) what the sovereign power of the Ethically Conscientious Individual can do. Ethical Conscientious Educational Options for parents have no place in the Constitution as written. We need to write “the right of ethically conscientious individuals to choose the kind of education their children will receive” from among educationally sound options into the Constitution.

  3. It is just the same as in the Lord of the Rings.
Those who support the dark lord do not know that their fate
is not going to be so nice at the end (but this the dark lord is not telling them yet)..

    http://allpoetry.com/poem/8500001-One-Ring-by-J-R-R-Tolkien

Three Rings for the Business-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Governor-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men and their kids doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Common Core to rule them all,
One Common Core in-Bloom to find them,
One Common Core to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
